Albums Of The Year (Industry Folk): David F. Bello of The World Is A Beautiful Place And I Am No Longer Afraid To Die

The second in our industry folk albums of the year lists comes from David F Bello of The World Is A Beautiful Place And I Am No Longer Afraid To Die, arguably the biggest success story of 2013 with the mindblowingly good "Whenever, If Ever" winning hearts from all corners of the internet as well as minor success on the Billboard 200.

1. Self Defense Family - Try Me

This just came out and made everything else that came out in 2013 feel like garbage.

2. Dawn of MIDI - Dysnomia
A long, confusing instrumental groove.

3. Rozwell Kid - Unmacho
Imagine a universe where Weezer kept getting better after Pinkerton instead of more and more awful. This is the album that alternate Weezer would release in 2013.

4. Longmont Potion Castle - Volume 10I want to drape giant sheets of magnet over my lasers. I'm not talking about oysters, here.

 5. Animal Logic - I Hate my Voice and Everything that I Say
I like Ian's voice and everything that he says.

6. Speedy Ortiz - Major Arcana
The riff from "No Below" is on a constant loop in my head.

7. Kirin J. Callinan - Embracism
First heard this guy by watching the weird, upside-down video for "Landslide" and the whole thing sounds like it's upside-down.

8. Deafheaven - Sunbather
When you want to listen to black metal but you also want to sip cranberry vodka and blog about it.

 9. Ancient Shores / Cynarae - Split LP
I have a soft spot for the Ancient Shores half, but the entire thing will punish you.

10. The Knife - Shaking the Habitual
Wonderfully frustrating pop.

Early In The Morning by James Vincent McMorrow (2010) (Review)

I've  decided to create a new genre. I call it “beardcore”. Scene heads generally make confessional folk music recorded alone in some isolated building (cabin, hut, beach house etc.) with only acoustic guitars, banjos and whatnot for company. Oh, and they have beards. Now you may think to yourself, ‘This will never take off! How silly of her!’ and, given most of my genre creating, you’d be right (Oberstcore never did take off…), but this scene is not just existing, but is currently thriving. The newest beardcore artist is James Vincent McMorrow’. Joining Bon Iver and Fleet Foxes in the genre, McMorrow hails from the not so green isle of Ireland and is making waves with his debut album Early In The Morning , eleven tracks of atmospheric indie-folk with intelligent musicianship, and more intelligent lyrics. The album starts off with “If I Had A Boat” an initially a capella, atmospheric grower. Starting off quietly, it eases the listener into the record with McMorrow...

McCafferty Split Up

Sadly, Ohio folk/pop/punkers McCafferty have decided to split up. Read their statement below. Dear Everyone, I'm sorry. It is with great sadness and excitement that I inform you all that McCafferty is coming to an end. I am going to be starting to teach soon, and I am required to get a background check, and I don't believe tha t McCafferty is a professional, respectful representation of myself as a newly trained teacher entering the field of Special Education. Music will always have a place in my heart, but my true passion is teaching. I am leaving the scene of DIY antics to follow my pursuit into adulthood, and I am so happy to have shared my bands music with you all. We truly are the essence of a real DIY band. We came into the scene as a dying star that was doomed to go out in the near future, and that time is now. I have already deleted our twitter/other social media websites but I feel that you all deserve an explanation of what is happening. To all the kids who listen...
