Sadly, Ohio folk/pop/punkers McCafferty have decided to split up. Read their statement below. Dear Everyone, I'm sorry. It is with great sadness and excitement that I inform you all that McCafferty is coming to an end. I am going to be starting to teach soon, and I am required to get a background check, and I don't believe tha t McCafferty is a professional, respectful representation of myself as a newly trained teacher entering the field of Special Education. Music will always have a place in my heart, but my true passion is teaching. I am leaving the scene of DIY antics to follow my pursuit into adulthood, and I am so happy to have shared my bands music with you all. We truly are the essence of a real DIY band. We came into the scene as a dying star that was doomed to go out in the near future, and that time is now. McCafferty 's recent EP, Forest Life, is one of The Alternative Tone's favourite releases so far this year. I caught up with Nick to get a track-by-track on the EP, in order to give us more insight into McCafferty's fabulous imagery and lyrical themes.  Jeff    There was a girl I was friends with in high school named Becky and she was in a relationship with this guy from freshman year until last summer, when their relationship fell apart she told me it happened really fast, that's why the song is so short. I wanted to explore the aspect of a relationship with so much feeling that just ends abruptly and the emptiness that you feel after. I've had people message me and say they wish Jeff was longer, but that's the exact reason I made it so short.  Snakes  I wrote "Snakes" with the mindset of making a song that sort of pokes fun at all these dogs out there in the DIY scene about smoking and partying, it's really simplistic in the lyrics b...

I caught up with wonderful new acoustic/punk/indie/pop/everything else band, McCafferty, to chat about their recent signing to Soft Speak Records, their new demo I Hate This Body and lots of other lovely things. We highly recommend McCafferty's new demo, and these guys are probably going to blow up and are certainly one of our new favourite bands.  Who is McCafferty and how did you get together?  McCafferty is an acoustic-punk band that I (Nick Hartkop) created because of a guy i used to work with in a restaurant,  it was his last name. One night at work he told me a story about a girl he was in love with in high school 5 years ago, and how he left her because he thought he needed to grow up, but after he did he realized his mistake, and he's wanted her back ever since. The story made me realize that we all have the same stories about love and loss and needing to grow up, and just being broken. And i wanted to create a way that people could connect those feelings w...

McCafferty are one of those wonderfully quirky bands that manage to strike the right chord, even if it's somewhat by accident. Layering DIY beats over acoustic guitars with an underdog attitude, I Hate This Body  ticks all the right boxes. "Skeleton Bones" is a complete jam - catchy as hell and super addictive. "Real Adult" has some of the most endearing lyrics around, and McCafferty 's ability to create such heartfelt, real feeling tracks is something that must not be underrated. You know when you get super excited about a new band? Because you think they're about to inherit the world? Yeah. McCafferty are that band. Listen to this and anticipate more from these guys.
