Review: Waking EP by Late Night Beers

Late Night Beers   - Waking EP                      Release Date: 05 June, 2013 Record Label: Self Release Rating: 8.5/10 For Fans Of: White Lodge, emo goes indie Buy It Here Waking by late night beers _________________________________________________________________ New Jersey's Late Night Beers aren't quite like most other emo bands. Whilst they maintain the wonderful miserablism and sadness that we all know and crave, they present us with an alternative proposition. That proposition in a lovely strain of Smiths-onian indie rock which runs throughout the veins of their modern emo sound. Does Morrissey fronting Dowsing sound good to you? Well, it's time that you listen to Waking, the new three track EP from Late Night Beers.  Despite the brevity of the EP, Late Night Beers already come across as a band who know what they're doing. Throughout the three tracks on here, we're introduced into the pretty, polished world of Late Night Beers. "Isn't

Interview: Legs Like Tree Trunks (June 25, 2013)

I caught up with Matt Holden of the wonderful Legs Like Tree Trunks to chat about the band, their upcoming LP and their plans for the future. Make sure you support these guys on Kickstarter !    Who is Legs Like Tree Trunks and what's your story so far?  Legs Like Tree Trunks is Matt Holden (vocals/guitar), Dave Shepherd (bass/vocals), Dave Cerminara (guitar), and Tyler Donaldson (drums). I met Dave Shepherd on Craigslist and started playing shows with him around Pittsburgh near the end of 2011. We were just doing acoustic guitar and upright bass, some folky versions of songs we still play sometimes. Our third or fourth show we got asked to open up for Tim Kasher (singer from Cursive) so we asked Tyler to play drums with us like 3 days before the show and he learned everything real quick. We met Dave Cerminara a couple months into 2012. He used to run the live radio sessions at WPTS Radio and he dug our set when we played there so he joined our band. As far as ou

Review: Smalls - Expecting The Worst

Smalls - Expecting The Worst                                  Release Date: June 03, 2013 Record Label: Self Release Rating: 8/10 For Fans Of: The Wonder Years crossed with Paramore Buy It Here Expecting The Worst by Smalls. _________________________________________________________________________________   Smalls are a four piece pop punk band hailing from Los Angeles. Expecting The Worst is their debut release. Throughout the course of four tracks, we're introduced to a refreshing take on pop punk. Rather than throw their lot in with any particular wave of the genre, the band steer clear of breakdowns or synths and have achieved a sort of timeless pop punk band feel.  All of this centred around powerful but likeable female vocals, and Smalls are onto something big here.  The songs themselves perfectly display just how good these guys are. Opener, "Lizzie" is relentlessly upbeat and catchy as hell. "The Great Gambino" is a little tighter musical

Interview: Edward Joseph (June 17, 2013)

Who is Edward Joseph and how did you get into music? I'm Edward Joseph, singer/songwriter from southeast Massachusetts. I was introduced to music as a child with a toy piano, took my first lessons as a trombonist in my elementary school band, began learning bass guitar and playing in bands shortly after for about ten years, then picked up guitar to start writing my own original songs just four years ago. What are you up to at the moment?  Most recently I've actually been taking a bit of a break from the songwriting and experimenting with learning the violin. I felt like things were slowing down with my songwriting "career" if you want to call it that, and wanted to challenge myself and also learn more about music. I do have one unreleased song that didn't make it onto the EP which I've promised my web audience I'll record and upload. I'm also constantly jamming in projects with friends which all have potential. How would you
