5. Life Trees The Seas by Brave New Storm
Over the course of three tracks, Brave New Storm have managed to create an extremely promising release of atmospheric folk music. Making usage of organic sounds such as the sea and whatnot, they re-create the environment in three folk songs. Luscious sound-scapes and artistic vocals leads to an EP that sounds far more professional and skilled than most bands of Brave New Storm's youth.

4. Once Upon Another Time by Sara Bareilles
Quite simply put, this is a pop record, but rather than falling into the trap of being all about the cheese, Sara Bareilles impresses with her rich vocals and piano driven tunes. Teaming her songwriting smarts with her obvious talents, Bareilles has made one of the best piano pop releases of the year. Sounding like a less brokenhearted, American Adele, it is disappointing that Bareilles' fame star did burn out so fast.

3. New Light by Moving Mountains
Whilst it is indeed filled with reworkings of previous MovMou songs, New Light is a show of how versatile everyone's favourite post-rockers are. As usual, each track successfully melds together post-hardcore vocals with post-rock instrumentation but with an acoustic twist. The acoustic setting allows MovMou's vocals to be more prominent, and for their great lyrics to be comprehensible. Moving Mountains are on an unending upward trend.

2. Autumn/Winter/Spring by Pull Strings
Good old-fashioned 90's tinged pop punk from Massachusetts. Despite being a debut, Pull Strings manage to sound like any of the best bands that you've loved and lost to turnstiles of punk rock. Catchy and abrasive at once, Pull Strings have released an EP that should carve a niche in the hearts of every The Wonder Years or Jawbreaker fan that has never heard them.

1. Postcards by Gatherer
Sounding like the second cousin of The Wave, Gatherer are one of the brightest things in post-hardcore today. Combining tamed anger with general miserableness and beautiful guitar lines, Gatherer sound like a band with years more experience than they actually have. 'Wedding Bells' the opener, sums up the entire EP in one track. Great lyrics with buckets of talent and genuine emotions come together to create an EP which is near to perfect. Sheer brilliance.
