Interview: Moose Blood (May 5, 2013)

Hi there, Moose Blood!

Suppy.

Who is Moose Blood and how did you get together?

The band is Eddy & Mark on guitar and vocals, Kyle on bass and myself (Glenn) on drums.

Kyle has actually just joined the band but the rest of us got together last Summer after Eddy had sent us home demos of a few songs that he wanted to make a band out of. We wrote a few more songs over the Summer, played our first show in October and recorded the Moving Home EP about a week after that.

What are you up to at the moment?

We’re constantly writing and just playing as many shows as possible really. We’ve just released a double A-side single ‘Boston//Orlando’ and we’re working on our next release at the moment which will be coming out later this year. Really stoked with how everything’s going.

How was the process behind Moving Home?

Moving Home was pretty much all written by Eddy before the band started, everybody added their own ideas and parts to it when we got together to practice. We recorded it over 2 days and got the tracks back a couple of weeks later so it all came together really quickly but it didn't feel rushed at all, we were all really happy with the way it worked out.

What inspired the lyrics?

Girls and Ryan Gosling.

Who/what influences your music?

Just real life stuff I guess, like relationships and Ryan Gosling.

What can we expect from Boston//Orlando?

The record sold out in about 1 minute! None of us were expecting that.. It’s available on iTunes and at some point we’ll put it on our bandcamp (www.mooseblood.bandcamp.com) too so everyone can hear the songs if they want to. We’re stoked with how the songs came out and it’s really cool to see that people are into it so far.

How do you plan to develop the band's sound?

We started in August last year so I think we’re still learning how to write together and finding out how we work best. Everyone is comfortable to have more of an input with the song writing now in terms of offering up ideas so I guess we’ll just see where we end up with each new release, we don’t want to try and force anything or aim for a particular sound because that would probably take the fun out of writing together.

What are your plans for the rest of the year?

We have another release in the works soon that will be out late Summer and hopefully we can get some touring done too, we really want to get out and play as many shows as we can.

Given that emo is a gang, who are the leaders?

Summer Finn & Tom Hansen, or Allie & Noah.

If Moose Blood was a Bukowski novel, which one would it be?

Post Office. On the B-side label of our Moving Home 7” we included the line “This is presented as a work of fiction and is dedicated to nobody” which is taken from that book.

Final words?

Don’t take things too seriously.
Emo is a gang.

McCafferty Split Up

Sadly, Ohio folk/pop/punkers McCafferty have decided to split up. Read their statement below. Dear Everyone, I'm sorry. It is with great sadness and excitement that I inform you all that McCafferty is coming to an end. I am going to be starting to teach soon, and I am required to get a background check, and I don't believe tha t McCafferty is a professional, respectful representation of myself as a newly trained teacher entering the field of Special Education. Music will always have a place in my heart, but my true passion is teaching. I am leaving the scene of DIY antics to follow my pursuit into adulthood, and I am so happy to have shared my bands music with you all. We truly are the essence of a real DIY band. We came into the scene as a dying star that was doomed to go out in the near future, and that time is now. I have already deleted our twitter/other social media websites but I feel that you all deserve an explanation of what is happening. To all the kids who listen...
