Camden Palace Hotel To Screen The Punk Syndrome

Cork's Camden Palace Hotel is to have an exclusive screening of The Punk Syndrome on June 4. Read more for details.

Camden Palace Hotel, the multi-disciplinary artist-led space in Cork’s city centre, is to host the first ever Irish screening of the documentary The Punk Syndrome. The film follows the emergence of Helsinki’s punk rock outfit ‘Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät’ from their rehearsal room to cult success. The band members play loud raucous punk in the style of The Ramones raging against their treatment by society. No different from any other punk band, except the four men who make up ‘Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät’ share a variety of intellectual disabilities and a great sense of humour.

The Punk Syndrome has garnered plaudits internationally, screening across Europe and the US on the film festival circuit picking up awards, the most recent of which came at SXSW where it received the audience award in the festival’s global section. It has proved a hit with it’s no nonsense approach to potentially sentimental subject matter. A life-affirming humanist story, according to Variety: “this thin-ice-treading docu opens a window onto alternative culture, human nature and the very narrow line between so-called normal people and those on the fringe.”

The film is being screened as part of Camden Palace Hotel’s weekly Cinéastea film night and will take place on Tuesday 4 June at 8pm. Cinéastea aims to extend the rich variety of film works available to Cork audiences by showing diverse and thought-provoking films from around the world. The current summer programme is in full swing and will run until the end of July.

McCafferty Split Up

Sadly, Ohio folk/pop/punkers McCafferty have decided to split up. Read their statement below. Dear Everyone, I'm sorry. It is with great sadness and excitement that I inform you all that McCafferty is coming to an end. I am going to be starting to teach soon, and I am required to get a background check, and I don't believe tha t McCafferty is a professional, respectful representation of myself as a newly trained teacher entering the field of Special Education. Music will always have a place in my heart, but my true passion is teaching. I am leaving the scene of DIY antics to follow my pursuit into adulthood, and I am so happy to have shared my bands music with you all. We truly are the essence of a real DIY band. We came into the scene as a dying star that was doomed to go out in the near future, and that time is now. I have already deleted our twitter/other social media websites but I feel that you all deserve an explanation of what is happening. To all the kids who listen...

Interview: Moose Blood (May 5, 2013)

Hi there, Moose Blood! Suppy. Who is Moose Blood and how did you get together? The band is Eddy & Mark on guitar and vocals, Kyle on bass and myself (Glenn) on drums. Kyle has actually just joined the band but the rest of us got together last Summer after Eddy had sent us home demos of a few songs that he wanted to make a band out of. We wrote a few more songs over the Summer, played our first show in October and recorded the Moving Home EP about a week after that. What are you up to at the moment? We’re constantly writing and just playing as many shows as possible really. We’ve just released a double A-side single ‘Boston//Orlando’ and we’re working on our next release at the moment which will be coming out later this year. Really stoked with how everything’s going. How was the process behind Moving Home? Moving Home was pretty much all written by Eddy before the band started, everybody added their own ideas and parts to it when we got together to pra...
