Interview: Delta Sleep (December 13, 2012)



Hi there, Delta Sleep!
Ahoy there Kelly!
For the record, who is Delta Sleep? And how did you get together?
We are 4 humans named Adam, Maria, Glen and Devin.
How would you describe your music for the unacquainted?
We met at University and we play jazzy punky mathy type stuff sprinkled with a few soft and shouty vocals.
How has your 2012 been?
It has been awesome, we played loads of shows, with some amazing bands.
We also recorded a new EP and shot a ridiculously funny music video for one of the songs.
What are you up to at the moment? 
We are about to get the EP mastered and we're finishing up the editing on the new video.
Apart from that we are just waiting for the New Year to arrive so we can rock the stage once again.
How's the process for the second EP going? Have you gone for a similar approach to the what you did with the debut EP? Or have you changed it up? 
Our song writing has definitely evolved into something more rounded and condensed.
Sound-wise it has a lot more punch, spunk and urgency to it.
Definitely our best sounding recordings to date!
What can we expect from the EP? Is there any concrete details you can share? Release dates, titles etc? 
The EP is called 'Management', we're not sure on the release date yet but it'll be early(ish) 2013.
The artwork has been done by Laura Jane Weeks who is awesome at drawing stuff. You can check out a preview of the artwork here (we haven't shown this to anyone yet so looks like you get the exclusive!).
We also have couple of videos we'll be putting up very soon to get everyone in the mood for Management.
You've received quite a bit of hype after your first EP, does that put more pressure on you for the second release? 
We eat pieces of pressure for breakfast.
What do you hope to do in 2013?
We want to tour these new songs and do as many shows as possible, get some dates in Europe, play some festivals.
Then start recording an album and play with some absolutely awesome bands.

If Delta Sleep was a type of dream, what would it be?
An Inception style wet dream within a dream of a wet dream.

Early In The Morning by James Vincent McMorrow (2010) (Review)

  I've  decided to create a new genre. I call it “beardcore”. Scene heads generally make confessional folk music recorded alone in some isolated building (cabin, hut, beach house etc.) with only acoustic guitars, banjos and whatnot for company. Oh, and they have beards. Now you may think to yourself, ‘This will never take off! Track-By-Track: Forest Life EP by McCafferty

McCafferty 's recent EP, Forest Life, is one of The Alternative Tone's favourite releases so far this year. I caught up with Nick to get a track-by-track on the EP, in order to give us more insight into McCafferty's fabulous imagery and lyrical themes.  Jeff    There was a girl I was friends with in high school named Becky and she was in a relationship with this guy from freshman year until last summer, when their relationship fell apart she told me it happened really fast, that's why the song is so short. I wanted to explore the aspect of a relationship with so much feeling that just ends abruptly and the emptiness that you feel after. I've had people message me and say they wish Jeff was longer, but that's the exact reason I made it so short.  Snakes  I wrote "Snakes" with the mindset of making a song that sort of pokes fun at all these dogs out there in the DIY scene about smoking and partying, it's really simplistic in the lyrics b...
