Interview: Indian Taker (August 15, 2012)

TAT: Hi there, Indian Taker!

   IT: Hey Kelly. First off, thank you very much for taking the time to ask us these questions.

Firstly, who is Indian Taker?   
         Indian Taker is Celso, Chris, Evan, Nick, and Sergy. We are just five close friends from Modesto, California who met through playing music in school and in different bands. In the beginning a few of us got together to play music as a way to fill our time in between school, work, etc. and over the last 9 months it has become an important part of our lives.

How did the band come about? 

            In late 2011, Evan (bass) and Celso (guitar) approached Nick (vocals) with a song idea and asked if he wanted to drum on it. After practicing for a couple weeks we played an open mic session and decided to keep going with it. After realizing Nick couldn't 'sing' and drum at the same time we had our friend Joe play drums with us for awhile. Later on Chris joined us guitar and since June our good friend Sergy is now playing with us on drums. The name, Indian Taker, came from a band Evan and Nick wanted to start, but never did. The original meaning of Indian Taker, as opposed to Indian Giver, is someone who wants or asks something from someone, but later no longer wants/needs it once it is received (a metaphor Nick developed for high school relationships).

Congratulations on signing with Quote Your Pulse Records! How does it feel being a fully fledged professional band? 

          Thank you very much, it feels great to be working with Jonathon and the rest of Quote Your Pulse! We met Jonathon a few months back and instantly felt a good connection. We are very glad to be working with a label with like-minded ideals/ethics. Hopefully this will help/persuade us into making this band a higher priority in our lives than it already is, and push us to go farther.

You've got a split 7" coming out soon. Any information you'd care to divulge about it for us? 

           There are still a few details being worked out, but we can say that we start tracking for it next week so we are very stoked for that. It will be a co-release between Quote Your Pulse Records and Enjoyment Records (UK) and will feature two songs from each band and should be released in November digitally and on vinyl. The other band will be announced VERY SOON!

What bands would have the most influence on your music? Who do you personally listen to? 

              As most people would say we have a very broad range of influence. Some of us are very influenced by Latin and jazz artists while others listen to Hardcore Punk, Metal, or even emo/screamo. Some bands all of us/some of us vibe on are Signals Midwest, Title Fight, Modest Mouse, Jawbreaker, Taking Back Sunday, Rx Bandits, Blink 182, Tigers Jaw, Streetlight Manifesto, etc. 

What's the aim for Indian Taker? 

                 We have already surpassed any goals we had set and we cannot wait to continue moving forward. After this Split 7" release we plan on heading out on a two week tour through the Southwest to be followed by more writing and maybe some off dates here and there. It is hard to get a lot done with members away at school, but we are working with what we have. The longer we can be doing this, the better.
